Nowhere to go… (yet)

Travel plans?

How the world has changed over these past 2 years. Can you remember where you were this time in 2019? We were sitting amongst the beautiful cherry blossoms of Cornwall Park, Auckland anticipating our next trip to Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan. Little did we know that we would only make it two of our destinations, with the remainder of our flights being cancelled one after the other.

After 2 years of playing sitting ducks, we are pretty keen to dust off our passports and go for a tiki-tour. But alas…it’s not to be…well not just yet.

As we anxiously wait for the world to open back up again, we decided to put together a wish list of places we’d like to visit in the future. We thought we should start with somewhere close-by.

Koh Chang, Trat: One of our favorite spots we never get tired of visiting is Koh Chang – the second biggest island in Thailand. We love this beautiful island for it’s beautiful beaches and magnificent mountain backdrop.

Koh Chang is located near the Cambodian border in the province of Trat. Although it is a large island, it’s not as heavily populated or busy as the some of the other touristy destinations. We hope that we will get an opportunity to visit there soon. When we do, I will be sure to post some of our favorite places to eat, stay, and play!

What is Slow-Fashion?

Sustainable fashion
Eco-fashion, sustainable fashion, slow-fashion – what does it mean and why it matters.

What is Slow-Fashion, or sustainable fashion as we commonly hear it referred to, and why does it matter to you and me? Put simply it means making wise use of the things we have. This doesn’t just apply to an item of clothing in our wardrobe.

Sustainability is connected to our lives, our environment, our culture, our homes. Cause and effect; what we do today will effect our tomorrow.

How we utilize available resources, whether it be the air, water, land, animals, or even people, our choices will impact our lives now and in the future. Sustainability is an ethical concern that each of us can adopt in our everyday decisions. If we use our resources wisely today, it means that we, and future generations, will hopefully be able to continue to use them in the years to come.

Slow-Fashion is the answer to Fast-Fashion. Fast-Fashion is essentially the latest, low-quality clothes that are pushed out constantly, in bulk, and on the cheap. This leads to excess waste and much of it will end up in landfill. Slow-Fashion considers all aspects of the supply chain with the aim of maintaining a sustainable relationship with the environment, animals, and people. We live in a disposable society, but this kind of attitude is already placing a huge burden on our planet and all living things on it.

Recycle . Reuse . Relove

Why sustainable fashion matters

We may not be able to fix the problems of the world all at once, but one way each of us can help is by making conscious decisions about what we buy.

First, ask yourself ‘Do I really need that?’ or, ‘What do I already have in my closet?’.
Rather than buying brand-new, is there a good quality second-hand option? When purchasing a new item we could consider some of the following questions:

Where did it come from?

What is it made of?

How is it made?

Who made my clothes and how are they treated?

Learning to make use of what we have helps us to develop a content attitude. Contentment is not innate, especially in this world. We must develop it. I have found that once I started applying it one aspect of my life, it gradually seeped into other parts of my life. When we master this valuable quality of contentment, it can actually give us true satisfaction and joy.

Making conscious decisions about what and how we buy is one thing each of us can do.
